New Orleans East Green Infrastructure Collective

A supportive experience that turns caring into community

NOEGIC is committed to enhancing quality of life in New Orleans East through green infrastructure solutions that tackle environmental issues, support sustainability, and strengthen community resilience.

About Us

The New Orleans East Green Infrastructure Collective (NOEGIC) is a community-driven organization dedicated to promoting sustainable environmental practices to boost climate resilience, reduce flooding risks, and support equitable well-being for residents of New Orleans East (NOE).

We seek to educate, engage, and empower the NOE community and motivate them to adopt green infrastructure solutions that address the region’s specific environmental challenges, especially climate-related urban flooding.

We work with local partners like Water Wise Gulf South and follow the Water Wise Model, using innovative, community-centered approaches to stormwater management, education, and infrastructure development.

Vision Statement

New Orleans East Green Infrastructure Collective (NOEGIC) is dedicated to empowering and transforming the New Orleans East community through education and the implementation of innovative green infrastructure projects.

NOEGIC aims to create a cooler, healthier environment that reduces the effects of extreme heat on our residents. Through teamwork, we seek to build a greener, healthier, sustainable, and vibrant community for current and future generations.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide residents with the knowledge and tools to manage stormwater where it falls. This helps reduce flooding, boost community resilience, promote environmental responsibility, and improve residents’ quality of life by encouraging innovative stormwater management solutions.

History of NOEGIC

New Orleans East residents established the organization in 2020 to promote the Water Wise green infrastructure model. To date, we have installed over 45 green infrastructure projects to reduce flooding on residential properties and have planted 64 trees in our community.

In the spring of 2024, NOEGIC helped facilitate the installation of a Rain Garden at Suburban Baptist Church on Chef Menteur Highway.

In spring 2025, NOEGIC created a Demonstration Stormwater Lot on Chef Menteur Highway at Sierra Madre to capture stormwater runoff from Chef Menteur Highway (which is an evacuation route), aiming to decrease runoff flowing into the Pressburg Neighborhood.

It is defined by its specific geographic location and natural boundaries, which include major bodies of water surrounding the area on all sides.

1. Lake Pontchartrain to the north.

2. Lake Borgne to the east.

3. The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) and the Intracoastal Waterway to the south.

4. The Industrial Canal to the west.
